| It was early one morning in the light of dawn when my rod went down and started pulsating as the reel screamed. The fish took my hook down river towards the rapids. It made several runs downstream but I managed to hold it and start reeling bringing it upstream again. The battle continued until it finally came closer to shore and went for the bottom. Several times it came up with my urging only to return to the bottom. On one of the trips to the surface the fish broke through the water and thrashed its head and body trying to unhook. The 8 oz. weight from the three-way setup went flying on one of the thrashings and it finally succumbed to the pressure and tension I kept on my line.My friend was able to net this beautiful silver 40 lb. chinook or spring salmon, after about half an hour fight. |
