Weekend Fishing Forecast:
Had some rain throughout the week but the forecast for the weekend is mostly sunny with higher day time temperatures. Chinook fishing on the Skeena is very good. BEST season in years. WOW Skeena Chinook fly fishing is difficult as most of the fish are holding in fast flowing deeper water. Conventional fishing works best at this time. Tyee Test fishery shows a good run of Chinook. Kalum is good for Chinook on the lower end. Try fishing for Chinook on the Exchamsiks and Kasiks in the clean water below the highway 16 bridge. Kitimat River Chinook is slowing down but lots of Pinks. Chum are starting to show up. Upper Lakelse Trout fishing is good, but water is high. Lakelse River Bridge should be fishing well for Chinook. Sockeye are in the river now. Lake fishing is good everywhere. Ocean fishing out of Kitimat and Prince Rupert is excellent; so is Crabbing and Prawning. Good luck this weekend.
Taking bookings now for: Gitnadoix, Kwinamass (April & May), Ishkeenickh, Kincolith, Zymoetz (Copper) class 1 and class 2 sections, Kalum and Skeena 2 plus all the unclassified rivers on the Skeena, Nass and coastal. Ocean out of Kitimat and Prince Rupert. If you are interested for a guided fishing trip please contact me anytime.

Weekend Fishing Forecast:
Mix bag of weather forecast for the weekend. Skeena very high but remains borderline fishable. Kalum is good for Chinook on the lower end. Steelhead on the Kalum is over. Try fishing for Chinook on the Exchamsiks and Kasiks the in the clean water below the highway 16 bridge. Chinook is closed above the bridges. Kitimat River is very good for Chinook. This river might be the 'best bet' for Chinook. Lots of BIG fish still in the channel heading for the river. Upper Lakelse Trout fishing is good, but water is high. Lakelse River Bridge should be fishing good for Chinook. Lake fishing is starting to pick up everywhere. Ocean fishing out of Kitimat and Prince Rupert is excellent; so is Crabbing and Prawning. Good luck this weekend.

Weekend Fishing Forecast:
Rain forecast for the weekend. With all the good weather and high day time temperatures the snow melt is heavy, which caused most rivers to blow out. River fishing is over for awhile. This is the time to hit the lakes and ocean. Good News…this should bring in the Chinook (King) Salmon run. Steelhead fishing in the isolated coastal streams should remain strong.

Weekend Fishing Forecast:
Good weather forecast for the weekend. All rivers are in good shape except for the mainstem Skeena. It is off colour and borderline fishable. Steelhead is the target fish now. The lower Copper, Skeena, Lakelse and Kalum Rivers are the best choice. Spring Steelhead are coming into the Kitimat River now. Kitimat and Lakelse Rivers are both good for Trout and Dolly Varden Char. There have been many Steelhead seen spawning in the Lakelse River; PLEASE do not harass the spawning Steelhead. Steelhead run in isolated coastal rivers is good. Chinook (King) Salmon are entering the Kalum River now. The have been seen rolling in some pools. It is now possible to catch both Steelhead and Chinook on the same day. Winter Springs are in both Kitimat Douglas Channel and Prince Rupert. Dungeness Crab and Prawning is excellent!

Current LIVE Fishing Report can be read anytime 24-7 at: http://www.noelgyger.ca/current-fishing-reports.htm

Commentary: Winter is here! Snow on the trails and ice forming in the rivers and lakes. Steelhead are the main target fish now on a few very special rivers. Trout (Cutthroat and Rainbow) and Dolly Varden Char are always available in the rivers, streams and lakes.

Skeena River: River is in good shape. WARNING: Ice along edges so please be careful. Most of the Steelhead have gone through but there is still a chance to catch some. Trout and Dolly Varden Char fishing is very good and is available year round. Reg: all wild Steelhead everywhere in British Columbia are catch and release. The Steelhead run is very strong.

Kalum River: Both lower and upper sections are fishing well for Steelhead. This river seems to have all three runs of Steelhead, spring, summer and fall. The fall run, from my experience, is the largest. So if you are coming to the Kalum to fish for Steelhead I would suggest the fall, starting mid September to end of October. The fishing guides can guide from April to November 1. If you are interested to book a trip contact me anytime. Guides and rod-days are very limited on this river so book soon. WARNING: Jet boater be very cautious as a few new channels on the lower end have formed and logs are nearly across the river.

Zymoetz (Copper) River: The water is in good shape and fishing for Steelhead is fabulous. I've had reports of some great catches. I have also heard it is very crowded Monday through

Current LIVE Fishing Report can be read anytime 24-7 at: http://www.noelgyger.ca/current-fishing-reports.htm

Commentary: Chinook (King), Chum (Dog), Pink (Humpy) and Sockeye (Red) salmon are the target fish now. In addition to salmon, Trout (Cutthroat and Rainbow) and Dolly Varden Char are always available in the rivers, streams and lakes. The summer-run Steelhead and Coho (Silver) salmon are coming soon. Weather predicted to be good with moderate temperatures for the next week so lets all get out there and fish.

Skeena River: Water is in fair shape and lots of anglers are heading out to try their luck. Sockeye fishing is good. My son-in-law Dennis and his friend Ray did very well fly fishing for Sockeye. Rumor has it DFO may increase the daily limit. The run is well above average. See the Sockeye chart below. Summer run Steelhead are in the river now. Coho and Pinks coming soon. Fly fishermen at Ferry Island in Terrace are hooking fresh Sockeye. Tip: In addition to fishing the main stem Skeena for Chinook you could try fishing for them at the tributary mouths.

Kalum River: Both the lower and upper sections are high but in fair shape. The Chinook bite is on. I have reports of some big fresh Chinook landed. When the main stem Skeena is dirty boaters and anglers fish at the mouth of the Kalum where it dumps into the Skeena. This spot is known as the 'hog line'. Summer-run Steelhead will be entering the river soon. Warning: Jet boater be very cautious as a few new channels have formed and logs are nearly across the river. The upper end is closed to fishing Chinook. The river record is 86-pounds.

Lakelse River: People are catching Chinook of off the Lakelse River Bridge. My best friend Lester Bryant says the best fishing for Chinook is when the cotton wood fly...and guess what the cotton is flying. Joking, he used to say the bridge should be restricted to children under 6 and adults over 65. Can be a good place to camp.

Zymoetz (Copper) River: Water is too dirty to fish. Facts: Last year we had a record run of Steelhead, lets hope at least we have another good run this year. The fly rods work extremely well in this river.

Exchamsiks: It is closed to fishing for Chinook above the highway 16 bridge but you can still fish for them below the highway bridge, that is if the water is clean.

Kitimat River: Water is in good shape. Chinook, Chum and Pink are the target fish now. Float boaters be cautious, see danger notice below. Update: two drifts rolled over in a log jam yesterday July 21st, luckily no lives were lost. And apparently nobody was wearing life jackets. They are very, very lucky to have survived this.

Smithers area Lakes and Rivers:

Bulkley River: Water is high and dirty. We have not seen anyone fishing yet. Springs are in the Bulkley.... Are they zooming through again to go to the Morice or Upper Bulkley???

Morice River: Same story here. With the high temperatures the snow is melting rapidly at higher elevations... The river is high and dirty... Morice Lake is also very very full. Springs should be in the Morice for sure.

Kispiox River: The Kispiox came up over one meter yesterday. It is coming down and greening up.... Again, Springs are in the system. We need the water to drop a bit now.

Lake Fishing: If you feel the urge to go fishing but your favourite river is still too high and too dirty consider going lake fishing.... We are truly lucky to have access to a multitude of lakes in the area. From really big lakes such as Babine Lake, Francois Lake... to smaller lakes such as Ross Lake, Irrigation Lake....Chapman Lake has been fishing really good as of late. Huge rainbows have been caught on Chapman... Rent a cabin and a boat on Chapman, enjoy the beautiful lake and scenery... For more info on Aspen Bay Cabins at Chapman Lake call 250-643-1385!

Current LIVE Fishing Report can be read anytime 24-7 at: http://www.noelgyger.ca/current-fishing-reports.htm

Commentary: Weather is GREAT lets go fishing! Good runs of Steelhead are noted...plus good local Trout and Dolly Varden Char fishing. Early run of Chinook Salmon has started, mostly bound for the Kalum River. The earliest we ever caught one was April 5th. We have lots of rain right now which has caused some rivers to blow out.

Skeena River: Water is high and dirty. Apparently the Bulkley River and other tribs are coloured up. The spring run Steelhead are in the river now. Plus Trout and Dolly Varden Char. Early Chinook (King) Salmon are coming in now. Catching Steelhead and Chinook on the same day is possible. Just need some clean water to get at them. Reg: all wild Steelhead everywhere in British Columbia are catch and release.

Kalum River: Both lower and upper sections are in good shape. The water is coming up slowly. These are the conditions we like. A good run of Steelhead are in the river now. Many of them have spawned and are now kelts heading back to the ocean. These fish should be handled with extra care. BIG fresh Chinook are coming in. The river record is 86-pounds.

Lakelse River: The water is in good shape and fishing for Trout is fair. Chinook are being caught off the Lakelse Bridge. Tip: Jigs work best.

Zymoetz (Copper) River: Water is too dirty to fish. Facts: Last year we had a record run of Steelhead, lets hope at least we have another good run this year. The fly rods work extremely well in this river.

Kitimat River: Chinook fishing is good. Some lucky anglers are still catching fresh Steelhead.

Smithers area Lakes: Finally, here is our fishing report for June 1!!!!! Yes, fishing is happening….. At Rainbow Alley fishing is decent with minnow pattern. Nice fish are being caught! For you avid trout fishers: The Stellako opens June 1! Most lakes are fishing well! Lake trout are being caught near the surface. Try a T50 or a T60 flatfish... Burbot fishing is also good at this time! Remember to use a 3 centimetre gap hook for burbot. For rainbow trout try triple teasers, small spinners, wedding bands and apexes. Chronomid fishing is also an option in lakes!

Prince Rupert: Fishing for Salmon, especially Chinook is very good, if you know the hot spots. Hopefully a large run is heading for the Skeena River. Bottom fishing is very good also, especially Halibut. Dungeness Crabbing is outstanding. Contact me if you are interested to book a charter.

Current LIVE Fishing Report can be read anytime 24-7 at: http://www.noelgyger.ca/current-fishing-reports.htm

Commentary: This is a great time of year. Set your GOAL high by targeting Steelhead and Chinook on the same day. Trout fishing is excellent.

Skeena River: Water is a quite dirty and really not fishable.

Kalum River: The lower and upper sections are in good shape. The water is coming up slowly. These are the conditions we like. A good run of Steelhead are in the river now. Many of them have spawned and are now kelts heading back to the ocean. These fish should be handled with extra care. Chinook fishing is excellent. We should be able to catch both Steelhead and Chinook in the same day. Wow is this fun or what!

Regarding Chinook, here are some very important regulations:
Upstream of signs below lower canyon:
- Jan 01 - May 24 limits 4 per day, none over 65cm. In other words 'catch and release' the big ones.
- May 25 - Dec 31 No fishing for Chinook.

Lakelse River: The water is in good shape and fishing for Steelhead, and Trout is fair. Chinook will be coming in soon.

Zymoetz (Copper) River: Water is too dirty to fish. Facts: Last year we had a record run of Steelhead, lets hope at least we have another good run this year. The fly rods work extremely well in this river. Fly fishing suggestion: Kamloops Dragon fly rod, 10’ Kamloops fly reel, AFTMA #8line. Backing Dragon Fly “Bright Orange” 30lb, 150 yard spool. Fly line SA Sharkskin Steelhead WF-8-F. Where: Sockeye fishermen are working the bars across from the Copper River. Fly fishing is the choice of many anglers on this river. Wading with quality Simms waders and accessories is the way to go. A friend of mine is very happy with his new Islander fly reel. Trophy XL fly rod, Cortland Line and Maxima Tippet . Tip: Fly fishermen please wade safely by using a wading staff. Trophy XL makes a nice one in 7 sections. Easily folds up and stores in a pouch on the waist.

Kitimat River: Steelhead are coming in now. Fishing has been excellent. More and more anglers are hitting the river. Trout fishing is excellent! The odd early Chinook have come in also.
