Report Description:
MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. (Reuters) - A Florida fisherman was recovering on Friday after being stabbed with the bill of a swordfish during a fight with another man, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said.
Police arrested Frank Ashmus, 46, and Garth Spacek, 42, on Thursday after the two fishermen allegedly started fighting near a dock in Madeira Beach, a small city on Florida’s Gulf Coast.
Police said that after Spacek hit Ashmus in the head with a beer bottle and left, Ashmus went to Spacek’s apartment and stabbed him in the abdomen with a sharp detached bill of a swordfish.
’We don’t see this kind of thing very often,’ said Pinellas County Sheriff spokeswoman Marianna Pasha.
Both men were drunk, according to police.
Ashmus and Spacek were held without bond on charges of aggravated battery. Spacek was in fair condition, Pasha said.

Report Description:
Winter is still kicking in Okinawa, but that means great amberjack and grouper catches on the east side of the island. Just drop one of many japanese jigs available in the local stores and wind fast with some jerks,to sample some of the greatest emotions,by having your jig pounded by a hefty grouper or amberjack. The FADS on the west side, still slow, with some small big eyes tunas, runners and the occasional mahi. But March should bring some warmer water and with that some of the biggest mahis found anywhere, along with big eyes, yellowfins, wahoo and some early migrating marlin. This month troll some medium size liquidators(bleeding dorado color)and you might encounter some of those early bird marlins or hefty bull mahi, always looking for a snack.

U.S. zoo investigates "virgin" shark birth
OMAHA (Reuters) - Unraveling the mysterious "virgin" birth of a bonnethead shark in Nebraska last month should make an "interesting research paper," a zoo director said on Friday.
The trio of female bonnethead sharks living in a tank at Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha "have never been even close to a male bonnethead shark since they arrived as 2 to 3-pound (1 to 1.4 kg) pups," zoo director Lee Simmons said.
There is a male epaulet shark in the same tank, but it is a different species than the bonnethead, which is a smaller version of the hammerhead shark, and would correspond to "a Chihuahua impregnating a Saint Bernard," Simmons said.
DNA tests were begun this week on tissue and blood samples taken from the 3-year-old female bonnetheads and the pup, which died five hours after it was born on Dec. 14 after being bitten by a stingray that lives in the same tank.
Several weeks of testing will be needed to determine which shark was the mother and who might have fathered the pup.
Though sperm can survive inside a shark's reproductive tract for months or even years, asexual reproduction is unheard of in sharks, Simmons said.
"We want to know if there was a father or if there was a weird hybridization of species. It will make a damn interesting research paper," he said. |

Report Description:
I received a report from a friend fishing this last weekend in Los Cabos with Victors Sportfishing that the wahoo are on hold but are in the areas of Iman and San Luis banks. Gordo banks is holding tuna and dorado but this angler was targeting the wahoo to no avail. His buddies fished off the lighhouse at Cabo and caught 2 stripers to 125 lbs on their first adventure there! Not bad for beginners as they outfished the person who brought them down! Their total also included tuna and dorado for the 3 days fished. Good luck if you go!!!!!!!!!! |

Report Description:
The Striped Marlin were biting on a 220 degree heading out of Mag bay outside the 100 fathom curve from Mag bay to Santa Maria this report from a boat tagging marlin for research there the week of 12/10/01. Reports indicated the new sonic eels from sevenstrand seemed to attract the strikes from the marlin. Not a lot of research was done on the lures themselves as there were other issues at hand during the tagging process. Report indicated the fish were not in abundance but doubles were common. Good luck if you get out there! |
